Albert Pierrepoint was the very best of hangmen.
He'd walk into the condemned cell and his work would be done within twelve seconds of meeting The Job, within twelve seconds of his greeting. Eight o'clock and all's well; twelve seconds past eight, as dead as a doornail. But don't forget the Number Two hangman, Harry Wade. Harry and his sidekick, Syd, hanged the also-rans; the page-four sub-headliners; the "Who's That, Thens?" You know - like Harry himself. So, when capital punishment ends and a local journalist publishes an interview with Harry in which Mr Pierrepoint and his reputation are hung out to dry, things take a very sinister turn. A grinning stranger arrives, his daughter go missing and then Mr Pierrepoint puts in an appearance. Martin McDonagh's award-winning 2015 comedy examines professional jealousy and revenge and the revenge of those revenged-upon.
