God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater
Review
Humdrum AmDram has produced another world-premiere of a full-scale orchestral musical - without instruments. Every note of God Bless You, Mr Rosewater is programmed electronically in a process that took eight months to perfect.
A curious production, this sharply-focused satire concerns multi-millionaire Eliot Rosewater who scatters his cash among mid-American nobodies. In the process, he loses his wife and goes insane.
Bedecked in beige slacks and brown suits, the company makes a convincing set of no-hopers. Most of the singing is good, and watch out for the acrobatic firemen in a well-choreographed routine. And if in the end there still seems to be some loose ends, the charm and quirkiness of this little-known production makes up for the fact.
